Drywall Replace FAQs

Drywall replacement typically involves removing and replacing drywall, (also known as gypsum).

This can include:

  1. Removing damaged sections of drywall.

  2. Installing new drywall panels.

  3. Applying joint compound (also known as mud) to the repair area to smooth out any imperfections and blend the repair with the surrounding wall.

  4. Taping the joint with paper or fiberglass tape to strengthen the joint.

  5. Applying (2) additional coats of mud and sanding them smooth.

  6. One application coat of coat of primer.

The process can be quite involved and time-consuming, depending on the size and location of the repair. It can also require some specialized tools and materials. It’s typically best to hire a professional.

Yikes!  It’s almost $50 to get a pizza delivered to your house!

  1. With that said, some small repairs, such as patching a small hole, can be done by a handy homeowner. However, larger repairs, such as repairing a large hole or multiple holes, should require the services of a professional contractor.
  2. The cost of drywall repair can vary widely depending on the extent of the damage, the location of the repair, and the cost of labor in your area.

Here’s an example:

Drywall replacement, (less than 2SF), average between 4-5 hours of labor which is spread out between (2) separate days of work.

  • The first day: Is for demo, framing, panel installation, and to apply the tape seams and block coat of mud. Then we clean up and leave, to allow the (block coat) to dry.
  • The second day: Is to apply two more coats of mud, minor sanding, and one application coat of primer and paint.
  • It is also important to consider that the repair cost will not only be a two-day process, but also for the drywall repair itself, and for the cost of materials, such as drywall, joint compound, and paint or texture.

If your drywall is done incorrectly, it can open your home up to a world of problems.  That’s why it’s important to hire a professional you can trust for all of your drywall repair and installation needs.
