Our Work Process

Generate A "Work Request"

The quickest way to initiate your Handyman Service is to click any “Work Request” Button.

Or… if you just want to hear my pleasant, but scruffy voice, just call/text Chris at (301) 888-JOBS.

Calendar Wrestling

After receiving your request form:

  1. You will receive a text from SmallJobs, asking for the best time to call to make further arrangements for a visual inspection of your repairs.
  2. On the phone, we will compare our calendars and set a time and date of your convenience.
  3. SmallJobs will remind you of our appointment, one day before arrival, and we reaffirm one hour before arrival.
  4.

Visual Inspection

Visual Inspections are FREE, to local homeowners.

After we show our State MHIC License, we would like to hear your ideas, see any clippings, photographs, or any other materials you may have gathered for the work that you have in mind.

NOTE: We’re happy to work with whatever materials you supply – some paint that you want to be used, or light bulbs that you have purchased. Just let us know, so we don’t include the same items in our written estimate.

Evaluation

We will conduct an evaluation of your project, getting a clear understanding of exactly what you want. So that in the end, you are satisfied with the results.

Recommendations

You will be given recommendations on the type of work needed and then our steps to complete the work.

Based on the amount of work, you will either receive an “on-the-spot” verbal quote or you will receive a FREE written estimate that spells out all the details involved – no surprises later.

Final Approval

Upon Job completion and quality inspection, your final approval is needed before we accept payment.

Payment for Work Completed

Payment is expected at the completion of the work, unless other arrangements have been made.

Common Questions

  • You should be home for the interior visual inspection.
  • For exterior inspections, there’s no need to be at home.
  • Sometimes, (for a simple repair), we may only need a picture to prepare a written estimate.
  • If you prefer a verbal estimate, usually we can provide a general labor estimate over the phone.

When a contractor is paid hourly, he is not in a hurry, and therefore may stretch, or “milk” your repair job out -(for his benefit).

“Be very careful hiring a contractor at an hourly rate”.

SmallJobs employs flat-rate pricing as their labor rates, meaning…we charge fair market value for each repair item.

The benefits of flat-rate labor pricing:

  1. Flat-rate pricing is acceptable to the homeowner as the contractor is paid for job completion, not how long he takes to complete the job.
  2. Our written estimates show our flat-rate labor rates and material pricing for the requested job. If the homeowner wants more work, the original estimate is revised and approved again by the homeowner.
  3. Our Invoices are the same as initially quoted, no surprises here.

Some contractors intentionally write soft estimates, and then – “punish you later.”

They may hold you hostage with incomplete work, all-the-while demanding more money to complete their job.

Everyone has heard of these war stories.

SmallJobs will not compete with other estimates, as we do not know, who we are competing against.

Basic questions arise:

  • Are they licensed or unlicensed contractors?
  • How long have they been in business?
  • Did they show up with a bicycle, or a station wagon?
  • Do they bring to the table, what we bring?
  • And so on…

Did you know?
Your home insurance policy won’t cover any damages, if you hire an unlicensed handyman.
